After three years as a senior sales manager for Abbott Laboratories, Inc., Zariq Siddiqui was promoted to a senior director position. Beyond his professional duties, Zariq Siddiqui contributes to several charities, including the United Way and Heifer International.
For more than 75 years, Heifer International has established sustainable agriculture and food access programs in famine-prone regions across the world. In 2019, the organization launched the Hatching Hope program which provides farmers in low-income countries with a sustainable livelihood.
The initiative teaches farmers in India, Mexico, and Kenya on how to start and maintain healthy poultry farms. Hatching Hope participants receive the tools and training to raise chickens in their backyard. These small-scale poultry farms provide ongoing income for local families as well as an accessible source of high-quality protein for impoverished communities.
The program also partners with local veterinarians, who provide low-cost medical care to ensure chickens remain disease-free. Through the Hatching Hope program, Heifer International aims to improve the livelihoods and quality of life of more than 100 million people over the next decade.
